Welcome to my “all things epinephrine” page!

Special note: education regarding living with life threatening allergies can be also found on both the EpiPen® and Auvi-Q® websites.

What is an Epinephrine auto-injector?

“Epinephrine injection is used along with emergency medical treatment to treat life-threatening allergic reactions caused by insect bites or stings, foods, medications, latex, and other causes. Epinephrine is in a class of medications called alpha- and beta-adrenergic agonists (sympathomimetic agents). It works by relaxing the muscles in the airways and tightening the blood vessels”.

Should carry epinephrine auto-injectors?

This is something that only you and your physician can determine.

What is an EpiPen®, Andrenaclick® or  Auvi-Q®?

All three are epinephrine auto-injectors

EpiPen® is celebrating their 25th year of production this year, 2013 and are a household standard and name. This injector is pen shaped and takes only a few steps to administer.

The Auvi-Q®  is one of the newest auto-injectors to join the epinephrine auto-injector market in January 2013.  The Auvi-Q® is the size of a credit card and as thick as an iPhone and is voice activated-meaning the device will talk you through usage.

The Adrenaclick®  entered the market during the summer of 2013 and I have not seen a trainer or actual device as of July 2013-so I can not comment.

Special note:  since there are three name brand epinephrine auto-injectors on the market and one generic, Ultimate List of Epi Pen and Auvi-Q carriers and holders 2013 offered information to help clarity any confusion when purchasing an epinephrine auto-injector that are highlighted in my blog post, More Information Regarding Epinephrine Auto-Injectors.
