Alright, I confess that there are more than three secrets to living through seasonal allergies (hay fever) with a smile on your face. Anything past three strategies and I will forget what I was doing in the first place, stick to three it’s easy! So, my top three secret weapons for facing off hay fever are…
Seasonal Allergy (hay fever) Secret Weapon #1
Shower and change your clothes when you get home! Consider that you’ve just walked through trees, bushes and grasses that are pollinating. All of their lovely pollen is in the air and it has to land somewhere…like your hair or shirt! As soon as you walk into your home, you are distributing what ever has landed on you all over your home and worse yet: maybe your pillow. My daughter has played soccer, not showered and awoke to puffy eyes and a mucous cough thanks to grinding her face in pillow that has been lightly dusted with Rabbit Brush pollen she picked up on her hair during soccer. During hay fever season, I have my kids shower when they get home from playing outside.
Seasonal Allergy (hay fever) Secret Weapon #2
Carry your allergy medications on you at all times! There is absolutely nothing more painful that having a seasonal indoor or outdoor allergy attack while at work or during an activity and you have no medicine! Now, blurry eyed, sneezing and miserable, you need to drive around to find a drug store. Not fun. Always carry your medicine and if you take allergy medication daily, don’t miss a dose! You’ll save yourself money and time by simply carrying your medicine. In my family, we all take different items for our seasonal allergies since Zyrtec makes my son anxious and Allergra leaves me groggy. We all simply carry what works for each of us.
Seasonal Allergy (hay fever) Secret Weapon #3
Love Your Sinuses! For the care and feeding of my stuffed up painful sinuses, I’ve graduated from a sinus rinse to a sinus steamer from MyPurMist. It is worth every penny and less mentally disturbing than forcing fluid up one nostril and out another! Warm gentle steam fills my nose and sinuses while I relax and enjoy Zen style peace and quite or I flip through a magazine while using this little device. I did a little test last week by stopping usage and I ended up with two mornings greeted by bloody noses-thanks dry Nevada climate! I am hooked on the MyPurMist sinus steamer. I blogged about this little gem last month, so check out my post on MyPurMist.
My final “Bonus” tip for surviving Hay Fever Season is a no brainer that we all seem to miss from time to time:
Simply avoid your outdoor or indoor allergen! Yes, head to the beach instead of the park if you are allergic to grass. Don’t hike amongst Pinon Pine if you are allergic to those and stay inside during windy days! Go bowling on windy days or hit the gym to play basketball. The good news is that seasonal allergies are just that: seasonal…this too shall pass.
Hope you’re enjoying a fabulous Monday!!-Caroline

Efrain, thanks for your kind thoughts. Hay fever season is starting around here. If you don’t have it, people don’t understand how miserable it is! Always visit your doctor for a game plan – they can tailor a health plan to meet your medical needs.
I simply needed to appreciate you again. I do not know the things that I would’ve
created without the actual thoughts provided by you relating to
this theme. Certainly was a depressing
difficulty for me, but understanding a specialised tactic you handled the issue
made me to weep over fulfillment. Now i’m grateful for your advice and believe
you find out what a
great job you have been carrying out instructing the mediocre ones using a blog.
I am certain you’ve never got to know any of us.
